Long overdue Update

Well, Brian is in Detroit for clinical rotations. Turns out, Elgin no longer takes medical students. So, we have been very busy finding him an apartment and getting him squared away. He has two weeks down on the internal medicine rotation. He has two of his "own" patients now and helps out his resident with the rest. His weekly schedule is something like this: Sunday rounds with Dr. F., Monday rounds with Dr. M., Tuesday long call (yes that means all night), Wednesday short call (until 1pm), Thursday rounds and full day, Friday rounds and full day, Saturday off. Needless to say, he is a bit sleep deprived, but I think he is learning a lot so far.

I am doing fine. Training for the Indianapolis mini-marathon at the moment, which is May 5. Let me say just one thing about training for a spring race - it sucks! The weather is unpredictable and my body does not want to function. The treadmill is nice once in awhile, but I don't care how nice a treadmill is; it still sucks after 10 miles!

I just finished a class in research design. I have secured a doctoral mentor, who thinks my draft prospectus is pretty good. I need to spend my one week off of class reading papers to develop my literature review. The literature review is Chapter 2 of a dissertation. Chapter 1 is the prospectus with added features such as theoretical background. So, by October, I will (hopefully) have 2 chapters "done" and be ready for IRB. IRB stands for internal review board. I am NOT allowed to conduct any research without IRB approval. So, we are on the way :)

Kids are great. They are in track right now. School is going well for them. I think they are ready for summer though. Oh, and I may have the opportunity to teach community college classes this summer while we are in Michigan. A fellow student happens to be the president and asked me if I was interested. So, that would be really really good experience for me. But, like all things, we shall see.

That's the update for now. I know I have been slacking on the posts, but I can only do so much in a day. More later.
